Common Wedding Invitation Pieces and Components
If you’re going to be having a wedding, then you certainly need an invitation! Typically sized at 5×7″ (US standard), your wedding invitation will fit into a standard A7 (7.25×5.25″) envelope with a 2.5″ flap. On the invitation you will list the hosts, the couple, and the ceremony date, time and location.
The envelope will list the invited guests and their address on the front, and your return address on the back flap. Response cards are included as an easy way for your guests to accept or decline your invitation. Sized at 3.5×4.75″, standard response cards fit into A1 envelopes (3.625×5.125″). Printed response cards are highly recommended for your wedding invitation suite. On this card there will be a line for your guests to reply, a response date, and entree choices if applicable. The name line is traditionally denoted with an “M” and the guests are expected to fill in the rest of their title (Mr. or Mrs.) and names.
We also recommended pre-printing your return addressing and pre-stamping the envelope for your guests’ convenience. Some older etiquette books say that the guests are supposed to take care of that part, however in today’s busy world it’s best to make it as easy as possible as for your guests so you get the majority of your responses back. Plus it’s just plain nice!
Both enclosures are inserts that go along with the main invitation.
The small enclosure (coming in at a miniature size of 3.5×4″) can be used for any variety of information that you’d like to share with your guests. It is often used as a reception card, denoting the time and address of your reception, if it is at a different venue than the ceremony. If your reception and ceremony are in the same location, the small enclosure card can also be used for registries, future address, wedding website, morning after brunch details, parking, or any other brief information that will help your guests.
The large enclosure is normally used for listing accommodations for out of town guests if you have blocked off rooms at a hotel nearby. It can also be used for brief directions, rehearsal dinner information, activities, or any other information that would help your guests coordinate their attendance.
If you are having a large rehearsal dinner or a morning after brunch, putting that information on the large or small enclosure along and including it in the invitations of the invited guests is a very convenient and cost effective way to get that information to your guests. It saves on postage and keeps everything cohesive as the enclosures will match your invitation suite to a T.
Invitation Wrappers (Belly Bands):
Invitation wrappers, also called belly bands, are straps used to bundle your invitation suite and enclosures. Our invitation wrappers are made out of a text-weight white shimmer paper stock (the same paper stock used for our envelopes). For most of our wedding invitation designs, the wrappers can be customized in a solid ink color, or can stay white with black or colored ink for any text or graphics.
